SSESW Education colleagues launch new undergraduate programmes

6 June, 2024

We are delighted to announce the launch of BA Education Studies here in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work.

A group of students doing group work

This exciting new programme, available for study from September 2025, will provide students with a strong foundation in the multi-disciplinary field of Education. World-leading experts with first-hand knowledge of defining, leading and contributing to the work of international agencies, governments, charities and educational institutions have developed and will teach on this programme. BA Education Studies promises an insightful student experience and a qualification that opens doors to influential career destinations in the education sector and beyond.

This course has been developed in alignment with the University’s strategic priorities: providing an education for societal impact which is built upon the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Education discipline at Queen’s has a world-leading reputation in Research and Teaching. Our Staff are highly trained and active in the field and are committed to the academic development and pastoral support of students.  BA Education Studies will provide opportunities for local and international students to benefit from studying this course in our unique context. Students will be taught by internationally recognised academics to explore themes and trends in education, to analyse and evaluate complex issues within and across education systems, and to ask questions that matter.

As well as the Single Honours BA Education Studies, we are delighted to collaborate with our colleagues in Sociology to offer Joint programme: BA Education Studies and Sociology.

Dr Leanne Henderson (Education Studies Programme Director) says

‘We are really excited to meet prospective students at the upcoming Open Day on Saturday 8th June and look forward to discussing these fantastic new courses. If students miss us on the day, I encourage them to get in touch with any questions they have or just to find out more about the courses.’

Who will be teaching on this course?

All of our modules are developed and taught by teams of staff who contribute across the three years of the programme. Each student will be given a personal tutor who will act as their mentor. The people you will see most often at Level 1 are:
