MOSAICC Study Funding

The MOSAICC Study has been funded by MPN Voice, leukaemia & Lymphoma NI and Friends of Anchor.

MPN Voice has a mission is to provide clear and accurate information and emotional support to everyone who has been diagnosed with a myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) and their families/friends. The charity is run by volunteers comprising MPN patients and healthcare professionals who  share a vision to provide a source of professionally backed information, to build and facilitate an MPN community and to advocate for patients affected by MPNs.  MPN Voice has members across the UK and in many other countries throughout the world.

Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI (LLNI) Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI is the only charity in Northern Ireland dedicated to blood cancer research. Their mission is to improve survival rates and quality of life for all blood cancer patients by supporting clinicians, scientists and students researching these diseases. The charity was founded by the McDowell family in 1964 following the death of their daughter Carole. In an effort to prevent other families suffering this loss, the McDowell’s started fundraising for blood cancer research.

Friends of Anchor is run by a small team and stewarded by a committee comprised of senior representatives from the ANCHOR Unit wards and clinics, and the business community, the charity’s aim is to help provide the best possible treatment, care and support to patients. The charity ws formed in the same year as the ANCHOR Unit. The ANCHOR Unit is a collective of specialised wards and clinics within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.Friends of ANCHOR has delivered direct support to the patients and staff since 1997.

The MOSAICC Study continues to raise funds to help cover the cost of conducting the study. All money raised will be contribute to the cost of analysing vitamin D levels in blood samples collected and also geospatial analysis of where cases of MPN occur.

Lower vitamin D levels at diagnosis are known to predict poorer outcomes in patients with other blood cancers but to date no research on MPNs has been undertaken. We would like to look at the relationship between vitamind D levels and MPNs.

We would also like to carry out geospatial analyis. Information will be collected on residential addresses as part of the MOSAICC study. Geospatial analysis can then be used to evaluate proximity to possible cancer causing factors.

If you would like to fundraise to help the work of this study, or if you are in a position to make a donation to the MOSAICC Study we would be most grateful. The link to our "Just Giving" page is below
