CANCER INCIDENCE AND SURVIVAL STATISTICS FOR NORTHERN IRELAND: 1993-2021

Official statistics on lung cancer, breast cancer, bowel cancer, upper gastrointestinal cancer and malignant melanoma diagnosed in Northern Ireland during 1993-2021 were published on 26th Oct 2023 at 9:30am. This release provides details of the number of cancer cases diagnosed each year along with incidence rates over time and data for a range of geographic areas. Survival trends and prevalence data (the number of people alive) are also provided. For completeness data on cancer mortality is provided courtesy of the General Register Office for Northern Ireland.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which began in 2020, an additional report has been compiled for each cancer type detailing how incidence and survival from these cancers has changed between 2018-2019, 2020 and 2021 thereby providing an overview of the impact of the pandemic on cancer patients and cancer services in general.
