Abstract: Habitat restoration is key to deliver ecosystem services in the current climate crisis context. However, the planning and implementation of habitat restoration requires careful consideration to guarantee the success of the restoration actions and the long-term habitat management. WaterLANDS is an Horizon 2020 project funded by the European Union aiming to develop strategies to deliver wetland restoration whilst working with communities and considering research as a key element to (1) plan habitat restoration and (2) inform about the efficacy of the implemented restoration techniques. In Ireland, WaterLANDS is coordinated by National Parks and Wildlife Service restoring over 500ha of blanket bog in the Cuilcagh-Anierin Uplands SAC. In this seminar, we will explore how research is key to plan out our restoration and to provide data about the efficacy of different restoration techniques on blanket bogs.
