Hello, | |
|
The School of Biological Sciences have successfully completed a pilot mentoring programme which has connected 15 current students to relevant industry mentors - and the positive feedback and benefits have been wonderful and worth celebrating!
The School of Biological Sciences have successfully launched a pilot mentoring programme which has connected current students to relevant industry mentors for the academic year of 2022/23 - and we are very EXCITED!
What better way to develop as a student than having an experienced mentor guiding you?
Over the years we have recognised the importance of students having access to industry professionals. This access to experienced mentors will support students to learn about career options, developing and building skills and confidence and building a network of connections to support students in their career journey.
It is evident that this connection to industry professionals is sought by students as we had 3 times the number of students to mentors apply. We have successfully matched students across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to mentors from broad areas of:
- Consultancy
- Research
- Conservation
- Food Science
- Environmental Agencies
- Health Science
- Business Management
The mentoring allows each mentor and mentee to discuss and agree aims and goals from the programme and plan out best ways to reach these. This could include:
- Career Development
- Presentations and Public Speaking
- Business Start-Up
- Building Networks
- Recruitment and Training
- Increasing Career and Business Confidence
- Resilience
- Problem Solving
- Someone to Support and Sounding Board
- Organisation and Planning
- Profile and Visibility
- Interviews and Pitches
We are sure that the programme will be a success and many benefits will have been gained.
THANK YOU - to our mentors for volunteering your time and resources to support mentees.
We are absolutely delighted to be ranked number 1 in the Times Good University Guide for Biological Sciences Graduate Prospects.
What does this mean?
Simply our students are finding the right level of graduate employment and further study post- graduation!
This is a fantastic achievement for the School and acknowledges the hard work of all our amazing staff in helping with our students early career development.
A big thank you to the employers who have recruited from us consistently through our Work Placement programmes at Undergraduate and Masters level.
And to the wonderful students we work with this is a highlight of their commitment, dedication and achievements.
