Spectroscopic investigation of cold technological plasmas
The main objective of this PhD project is to investigate cold technological plasmas with a variety of diagnostic techniques including spectroscopy. Spectroscopy can be a very useful tool because it analyses light emitted by atoms plasma environments. For example, Boltzmann plots of spectroscopic data can be used to estimate the electron temperature in the plasmas. The density of electrons can be estimated from Stark broadening of emission lines such as hydrogen-beta line in the Balmer series. Thus spectroscopy has the ability to reveal details of the plasma environment without the need for invasive probes which could disturb the plasma.
