Current research project

Theory of positron interactions with molecules / condensed matter and related processes

I am a member of Dr. Dermot Green’s research group delivering the ERC-funded research project “ANTI-ATOM: Many-body theory of antimatter interactions with atoms, molecules and condensed matter.” This project aims to develop ab initio theoretical and computational methods to describe the fundamental interactions of positrons and positronium with atoms, molecules and condensed matter. One specific aim of the project is to calculate the positron band structure in solids. Many-body theory will be used to develop this calculation, from which important parameters will be obtained such as the positron work function and gamma-spectra for positron annihilation in condensed matter. This research will provide insight for the future development of antimatter-based technologies within medical imaging and material diagnostics.

Biography

In July 2021 I graduated with first-class honours in MSci Theoretical Physics, receiving multiple prizes including the William Blair Morton Prize for the best MSci research project. My final-year project, supervised by Dr. Gleb Gribakin, was entitled "Variational Method for Matter-Antimatter Systems." It was during this final year that I developed a strong interest in antimatter physics and decided to pursue research in this field. I began my PhD in October 2021.

Research interests
