Monica McGrath

Improving the competencies of undergraduate mental health nursing (UGMHN) in Cognitive behavioural Therapy (CBT) skills to increase access to psychological therapy.

With an expert research and advisory team this project will utilise the principles of intervention development through a six-step co-design approach to design a model for nurse educators to integrate the requirements to teach evidence-based low intensity CBT skills in UGMHN.

This will be combined with Kirkpatrick’s pedagogical evaluation framework & established CBT assessment scales to analyse and evaluate the results of a skills-based training model to assist UGMHN students to acquire competence in low intensity CBT skills for practice, in a way that is easy to identify, apply & quantify.

My project is funded by Letterkenny Institute of Technology, LYIT, Co. Donegal.

In what ways have you developed at Queen’s?

Areas of knowledge, skills & experience in professional practice and research

Where do you hope your PhD will lead?

Impact upon professional knowledge & research to enhance my current role & contribute to mental health nurse education.
