Postgraduate Research
We have a vibrant community of postgraduate students from a number of countries including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Kurdistan, Indonesia, Oman, Ireland and Kuwait. We support full and part time students, some studying at a distance in their home country and our numbers are growing year on year.
Our Student Voice Committee supports students through their studies including virtual yoga, mindfulness and coffee mornings and each new PhD student has an allocated ‘peer buddy’.
Students can avail of training opportunities offered by the School, the University's Graduate School and the Pioneering Research program CESI (Centre for Evidence and Social Innovation) which provides a programme of events that facilitates high levels of interdisciplinary engagement relevant to issues pertaining to health and social care.
We run regular masterclasses such as writing workshops covering ‘Motivation & Time Management’, ‘Making Mistakes and Being Perfect’, ‘Not to be an ANT (Automatic Negative Thoughts) and do MATHs (More Accurate Thoughts)’. A Qualitative Skills workshop is offered twice a year to postgraduate students/researchers to develop their qualitative skills prior to data collection and ensure they are confident in carrying out their research projects. This workshop is a joint Queen's University Belfast/Ulster University initiative.
Our PhD students can apply for paid teaching experience from their second year and all PhD students have access to office accommodation within the School to facilitate effective communication, teamwork and support from the wider interdisciplinary School network.
