A UK and Ireland mixed methods study. Aim: (i) to identify the LGBTQ+ health needs within nursing and midwifery pre-registration programmes and (ii) Identify areas of best education practice regarding LGBTQ+ health within nursing and midwifery pre-registration programmes to inform an education curriculum guide.  

Phase 1  

• Policy, standards and literature review of LGBTQ+ health content 
• Ireland and UK-wide survey of all nursing and midwifery programmes to identify LGBTQ+ health content 

Phase 2  

• Qualitative interviews involving academics regarding LGBTQ+ health within nursing and midwifery programmes 
• Data synthesis and mapping against NMC and NMBI academic standards 
• Development of best practice guide and project funder report 

Expected Outcomes 

• Systematic review of literature of LGBTQ+ health within nursing and midwifery programmes  
• Map of LGBTQ+ content within nursing and midwifery programmes across Ireland and the UK 
• Project report 
• Best practice guide mapped to NMC and NMBI academic standards
