Exploring digital capability in Pre-registration Nursing curricula in Northern Ireland: a mixed methods case study

Project Title Exploring digital capability in Pre-registration Nursing curricula in Northern Ireland: a mixed methods case study
Research Focus

The National Health Service is progressively moving towards digital reform and modernisation in clinical practice and care delivery promoting more control and choice for  service users.  Health care professionals require support in developing digital capability as digital healthcare evolves but little is known about digital literacy or digital capability in nursing education. this project seeks to explore student and educators’ perceptions to inform the development of nursing curricula.

Description of Project: Aim; Methods; Expected Outcome

The aim of this study is to explore how pre-registration nursing curricula within Northern Ireland promotes digital capability from the perspective of pre-registration nursing students and nursing faculty educators. The  study will be conducted using an embedded case study design in three phases: 1. Conduct a systematic review exploring digital literacy education for pre-registration nursing students in higher education nursing curricula; 2. Explore the understanding and experience of pre-registration nursing students and  nurse educators of digital capabilities via focus groups and 3. Assess attitudes and confidence of pre-registration nursing students and nurse educators of digital capabilities within nursing curricula via a quantitative survey.
