Short Courses

A Short Course normally comprises 3 modules, which you can complete in one year as a part time course of study. On successful completion you will be awarded 60 CATs points at Level 3/6, and you may be eligible to progress onto our degree programmes.

Anaesthetics Nursing

This short course addresses the role of the anaesthetic nurse in obstetric, emergency and trauma situations, care of children, obesity and anaesthesia.

Cardiac Surgery Critical Care Nursing

This course focuses on the physiology of the vascular, cardiovascular and respiratory systems; as well as the immediate assessment and evidence-based management of cardiac surgery intensive care patients.

Cardiology Nursing

Study the physiology of the cardiovascular, respiratory, renal and nervous system; and further develop clinical skills such as assessment of the cardiac patient and ECG interpretation.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy: An Introduction

This course will develop your knowledge of more common mental disorders such as anxiety and depression; and develop skills in formulation based assessment and evidence based, measurable interventions.

Critical Care Nursing (Intensive Care Nursing)

This course considers the immediate assessment and management of critically ill patients in a hospital setting, underpinning the National Standards for Critical Care Nurse Education.

Endoscopy and Related Procedures

This course provides nurses with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to manage and care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures and surgery. Related legal and professional issues will also be covered.

This short course has been designed to help the nurse meet the challenges of understanding the range of haematological conditions and the complex treatment regimes they require.

This course focuses on the immediate assessment and evidence-based management of patients in high-dependency units, underpinning the National Standards for Critical Care Nurse Education.

This short course will facilitate the further development of an enquiring and creative approach to the study of neonatal care and related issues in a reflective and critically aware manner.

Nursing Care of the Critically Ill Child

This course aims to extend and develop a nurse's knowledge, skills and attitudes towards achieving evidence based standards for the care of the critically ill child.

This course enhances knowledge and understanding of the normal structure and function of the eye; as well as related pathophysiology, social, psychological and ethical issues.

Orthopaedic / Trauma Nursing Across the Lifespan

This course addresses the needs of the patient across the life span presenting with either an orthopaedic condition or fracture trauma injury; and develops skills in areas such as musculoskeletal care.
