Welcome to The School Of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics

We are one of the largest and most wide-ranging schools in the university, exploring culture and society from the origins of humanity and ancient history to modern day politics.

Through our research and teaching, the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics aims to help our wider society understand the world around us.  Alongside over 90 academic staff specialising in a wide range of fields, we are home to a large community of undergraduate and postgraduate students. We have an international reputation for excellence and we strive to develop ground-breaking research and deliver innovative teaching. You’ll find more information about the school, our people and our activities in these pages.

Research Centres

We are home to a number of research centres which bring together clusters of research being conducted by academics in the School and beyond.

Research Institutes

The Institute of Irish Studies and the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice are both interdisciplinary research institutes that sit outside the School, but many HAPP colleagues are leaders and fellows of these Institutes, enabling valuable and sustained engagement.

The Athena SWAN Charter was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine employment in higher education and research.
