Aoife Bell: Environment and Sustainability Coordinator at Lakeland Dairies
BSc Environmental Management graduate, Aoife Bell, shares how her placement with Lakeland Dairies led to a graduate role.

My day-to-day job involves energy monitoring and reduction, and working with governmental schemes to ensure reduced emissions. Working with the NIEA to prevent pollution and control of risk areas. Increasing environmental awareness for staff and pushing sustainability initiatives across our site. I enjoy the freedom to make decisions on how we can improve as a business, and helping the business to push forward to net-zero, as highlighted in our Sustainability Strategy- 'Pathway to a Better Future'.
How did you find your current role?
I initially found a placement role with Lakeland Dairies through the School of Biological Sciences Careers and Placement Team, who recommended the position to me as it is close to where I live. I was then invited back into a full-time role post-graduation. I enjoy the industry and position and the position is the type of job I was aiming for from the beginning.
The Placement and Careers office were vital to me in securing my placement and job role. They have so many resources available and are amazing at getting to know what job you are suited to, especially if you engage with them.
Looking back – how would you advise your first year self to make the most of your time at Queen’s?
Get involved in everything! Queen's has a lot to offer students. I worked for Queen's SU while at university and it helped me manage my time and allowed me to maintain a social life and work life while studying.
