CCE Academics Launch New Journal Focusing on Carbon Capture
Academics from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, in partnership with the IChemE and Elsevier, have launched "Carbon Capture Science & Technology" (CCST) which seeks to publish work in the area of atmospheric carbon dioxide reduction.
CCST is a new gold open access journal, covering all aspects of carbon capture research. The journal aims to be the top specific, peer-reviewed journal for carbon capture research and technology development.
CO2 is a major contributor to climate change and related challenges - in the last half-century, the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has grown dramatically due to the large-scale utilization of fossil fuels and various chemical refinery processes. Worldwide research efforts have been devoted to developing new technologies for reducing CO2 emissions in line with targets set by arrangements such as the Paris Climate Agreement. This open access journal is intended to promote the development of technology and sharing of knowledge to advance CO2 reduction technologies.
Dr Chunfei Wu, Reader in Chemical Engineering at the School and Editor-in-Chief of the new journal commented:
“Carbon capture science and technologies are vital for a green and sustainable future. Technological advances in these areas will spearhead our campaign for net-zero carbon emissions to combat climate change by neutralizing the negative impacts from using fossil fuels, which are anticipated to remain a key energy source in the next 50 years. This new journal is the first fully open access journal in its field, and will provide a unique platform for international scholars to disseminate cutting-edge high impact research in the broad field of carbon capture.”
