Cameron Ramsey Awarded Prestigious Hamilton Prize in Mathematics 2025
Cameron Ramsey from the School of Mathematics and Physics was awarded the prestigious undergraduate Hamilton Prize in Mathematics this year by the Royal Irish Academy.
Each year the Royal Irish Academy awards the prestigious undergraduate Hamilton Prize in Mathematics, sponsored by Ibec, to the top mathematical students in their final year of study as nominated by their university. This year’s prize was presented by the 2025 Hamilton Speaker, Nobel Laureate Professor Kip Thorne. Kip Thorne was awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize for his contributions to the study of gravitational waves. He also served as the science advisor for Christopher Nolan’s 2014 film, Interstellar.
The ceremony took place at the Royal Irish Academy on Thursday, 16 October 2025, a date that marks the anniversary of famed Irish scientist William Rowan Hamilton’s discovery of quaternion algebra on 16 October 1843.
The nine 2025 Hamilton Prize winners are Conor Bradshaw, University College Cork; Sorcha Broe-Brady, Dublin City University; Darragh Connaughton, University of Limerick; Daniel Drapeau, Maynooth University; Cameron James Ramsey, Queen's University Belfast; Gabrielle Pichot, Technological University Dublin; Mhyls Salapuddin, University College Dublin; Ihor Skorobogatko, University of Galway; Ronan Zaletel, Trinity College Dublin
In recognition of their mathematical excellence, the students each received a cash prize and a certificate of achievement at an award ceremony in the Royal Irish Academy. Earlier in the day they attended an exclusive masterclass with the Professor Kip Thorne, which was hosted by Ibec.
The School is delighted to see Cameron's achievements being recognised. Well done Cameron!
