Three final year midwifery students deemed Highly Commended in The Undergraduate Awards

16 August, 2016

We are delighted that three of our final year Midwifery students; Karen Hagan, Samantha Hutchinson and Nicola Shepherd, have been deemed as Highly Commended Entrants in The Undergraduate Awards, and have been identified as outstanding academics at the international level. Their submitted papers performed in the top 10% of the 2016 programme, and they have made the shortlist to be announced as one of the 25 overall winners. The overall winners will be announced on the 6th September. This year, UA received 5,514 submissions from students in 243 universities across 40 countries.

UA is a prestigious and international academic awards programme, which is wholly pan-discipline. Cited as the ultimate champion for high-potential undergraduates it is now the largest academic awards programme in the world and it aims to celebrate and support the world’s brightest and most innovative undergraduate students by recognising their best coursework and projects. The programme has been under the patronage of President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, since February 2012.

The Undergraduate Awards 2016 programme is open to all penultimate and final year undergraduate students in a degree course, as well as those graduating in 2016, from all disciplines. We invite students to enter both outstanding academic papers and research, as well as visual arts portfolios using our online forms. The Undergraduate Awards provides top performing students with the support, network and opportunities they require to raise their profiles and further their career paths, as well as coming to Dublin for an all-expenses-paid trip to receive their medal. The UA programme is divided into seven regions: Africa & the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Ireland, Latin America, Oceania and US & Canada. Entrants are chosen for their innovative approach to their subject area – creating world-class research to tackle some of the world’s toughest challenges.

Global Winners are published in the annual ‘The Undergraduate Journal’, as well as being invited to the UA Global Summit in Dublin, Ireland to be held on the 8th - 11th November 2016. This is an all-expenses-paid four-day networking and brainstorming event which brings the world’s top students together for a series of inspirational lectures, workshops and discussions. Winners and Highly Commended Entrants also gain access to the UA Alumni Network.
