School of Nursing and Midwifery achieve Athena Swan Gold Award
The School of Nursing and Midwifery is delighted to announce it has been awarded the Athena Swan Gold Award by Advance HE, recognising its sustained dedication to gender equality and inclusive opportunities.
This milestone reflects years of determined work to embed equality, diversity, and fairness across all levels of the school. It honours the vision and leadership of successive heads who have helped pave the way for this achievement.
The award process was supported by the collective efforts of Swan Champions, professional services staff, and Swan working groups across the school, all of whom contributed to shaping initiatives, policies, and cultural change.
Commenting on the achievement, Professor Kenda Crozier, Head of School said:
“We are extremely proud to have achieved Athena Swan Gold. This award recognises not just individual efforts but the collective commitment of our entire community. From leadership to staff to our professional services team, every contribution has been essential in bringing us to this moment.”

It stands as a testament to how far the school has come — and to the work that still lies ahead.
