Description of Project: Aim; Methods

To develop the core components of an educational tool for patients with an ICD & family members. The study uses an “experience-based co-design approach” over two phases.

Phase One: Qualitative interviewing. A purposive sample of 5 healthcare professionals from the BHSCT who manage patients with an ICD daily will be interviewed. Questions will be framed to explore their experience of providing information to patients and caregivers prior to ICD implantation.

Phase two: Interactive Workshop.  Results from phase one will be presented at a workshop, involving patients with an ICD, family members, healthcare professionals and clinical service managers. Through an interactive discussion three or four improvement priorities will be agreed that will inform the component of an educational intervention.
