  • An Educational Intervention for Adult Child Carers of people living with dementia in Indonesia

An Educational Intervention for Adult Child Carers of people living with dementia in Indonesia

Project Title

An Educational Intervention for Adult Child Carers of people living with dementia in Indonesia

Research Focus

In line with the global trends in  dementia, Indonesia, specifically Yogyakarta province has a high prevalence rate for  dementia in  people aged over 60 with the majority of the older population living with their children or intergenerational families. There is evidence that providing support programs for carers improves their care competency, knowledge, and coping strategies. However, there is less evidence for what may help adult-child carers in low- and middle- income countries. Therefore this study seeks to identify how an educational intervention may support adult child caregivers of people living with dementia.

Description of Project: Aim; Methods; Expected Outcome

The aim of this study is to determine the feasibility of a quasi-experimental study of an educational intervention, for adult child carers of people living with dementia in Indonesia. A systematic review will be undertaken to identify the current best evidence in developing countries of educational interventions to support carers of people with dementia followed by a  sequential mixed methods design. The quantitative phase of the study will assess trial procedures, sample estimation, retention rates and the suitability of outcome measures. The qualitative phase of the study will evaluate the acceptability of the educational intervention from the perspective of adult child carers of people living with dementia in Indonesia.
