CPD | Nursing

BSc (Hons) Psychological Trauma

LEVEL OF STUDY - 2 diploma level & 3/6 - degree level

This unique training aims to meet the needs of those from community groups, organisations and health care professionals involved in the care and support of traumatised individuals and communities.

The programme is managed collaboratively by the School of Nursing and Midwifery and WAVE Trauma Centre. WAVE Trauma Centre is a cross community organisation, which provides therapeutic support and befriending services for those affected by the psychological trauma associated with the Northern Ireland troubles.

 

Fee

Self Funding / Fee Paying - 2025/26£1,770 per year

There will be a number of full or part time bursaries available to support those working with victims and survivors of the Troubles. Please contact trauma.education@wavetrauma.org for more information.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must have successfully completed a programme of study of 120 CATS points at Level 4, as approved by the School of Nursing and Midwifery.  See Selection Criteria for full requirements.

The Programme

  • Course Content

    This degree programme comprises of five modules at Level 2 (Diploma Level) and five modules at Level 3 (Degree Level).

    Modules include:

    • Theoretical Perspectives of Trauma and Loss
    • Developmental Trauma
    • Trauma and Addiction
    • International Responses to Conflict
    • Social and Political Aspects of Victimhood
    • Trauma Across Generations
    • Trauma Informed Approaches to Care
    • Vicarious Trauma and Resiliency
  • Selection Criteria

    Please note, 120 CATS points at Level 4 equates to one year of completed study at Degree Level. 

    FE College Access courses and BTEC qualifications are not sufficient to meet the access requirements of the course.
