How to apply
1. Check you are eligible
Before drafting a research proposal and making an application to undertake a PhD, please check you have the appropriate qualifications and which projects are ongoing. Click here to view current projects. If none of the available projects suit you, you must check whether we can support your area of interest, and identify a supervisor.
2. Contact the potential Supervisor
Once you have confirmed your qualifications and identified a potential project and supervisor in the area of your research interest, you should make contact via email for an initial introduction. Please include:
- The reason for selecting this particular supervisor
- a 500 word statement of the area you are interested in and its significance
- a brief, but precise, account of your academic qualifications
In particular, please indicate any qualifications you already have in Nursing and Midwifery, the level and final mark. Further information on any practical experience and/or dissertations completed would also be helpful to the potential supervisor.
If you have been unable to identify anyone from the webpage who might be a suitable supervisor, please contact sonmresearchsupportoffice@qub.ac.uk for further support. Note that while we will do all we can to help you find a supervisor, it is not always possible to do so.
3. Research Proposal
If the proposed supervisor is willing to support an application from you then you must prepare a good quality research proposal to submit with your application for consideration by the selectors. Please note that agreement to submit an application is not a guarantee of success at this stage. To help you with your research proposal we have developed a guidance document and videos below.
Any proposals exceeding 2000 words will be returned for amendment.
