Role & Requirements

The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is looking for motivated and passionate academics in Computer Science who will excel in contributing to the ambition of the University in terms of transforming Northern Ireland’s digital innovation. The post holders are expected to drive forward an ambitious research agenda, contribute or lead University-wide efforts to establish Queen’s as an international leader in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Systems research, and apply research to address global challenges, complimenting the development of the Global Innovation Institute (GII).

We are seeking candidates with research experience in two of the following themes:

The theme of Artificial Intelligence - Computational methods based on real intelligence

Artificial Intelligence techniques borrow from various aspects of our understanding of how human intelligence works in order to tackle computing problems which, because of complexity or scale, are very difficult to solve by conventional programming techniques. Advances in recent years have come through the availability of greater computing power, the development of new AI techniques, and the application of ideas to new problem areas. AI technologies are strongly addressed within the School.

Within the area of AI, we are particularly interested in welcoming applications from the following areas:

  • AI and Biomedical Science
  • Knowledge Exchange
  • Computer Vision
  • Natural Language Processing

The theme of Computer Systems - Computing for future connected societies

Computing Systems (CS) specialises in computer design for efficient, accurate, responsive, secure, and dependable processing of data-intensive applications. In applications as diverse as machine learning and artificial intelligence, healthcare analytics, scientific computing, network analysis, federated learning, cyber-physical systems and others, these systems are built from ad-hoc combinations of many different types of computing technologies.

Within the area of Computer Systems, we are particularly interested in welcoming applications from the following areas:

  • Edge Computing
  • Accelerators
  • Cyber Physical Systems
