Is this programme for me?

Changes in health trends, policies and technologies create the necessity for health professionals to continuously re-define and improve their skills.  Designed for registrants who need to top-up their academic profile, this degree programme aims to prepare students to practice safely and effectively so that they can assume the responsibilities and accountability required to work in a neonatal setting.

 

How is the programme structured?

This degree programme comprises six modules at Level 3: four core modules and two optional modules. The degree programme provides a range of module options to enable students to construct a bespoke programme of study to meet their personal and professional needs.

You choose your own pace of study - studying full-time, you should normally complete six Level 3 modules in one academic year (three in each semester).  A part-time course of study should be completed in two years.  Part-time students may take no more than four modules in any one academic year. 

The modules you can choose from are listed here.  Please note: modules will run each year subject to viability.  Many modules offer blended learning and varied assessment methods, to suit a variety of different learning styles.

 

What entry qualifications do I need?

Candidates must normally hold a professional qualification, for example in nursing or midwifery.  You should also be registered on the appropriate part of the Professional Register maintained by the NMC, and have a minimum of 6 months' experience in a neonatal unit.  Note: Some modules require a specific professional qualification. Candidates must have 120 CATs points at Level 1 and 120 CATs points at Level 2 for entry to Level 3 study. Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements should contact the School for advice.

 

Practice placements

Whilst taking the compulsory practice modules, all students must be working in a neonatal setting. In addition, a School approved mentor, who has met NMC standards (2008), will be allocated for support in the clinical area.

 

Additional Information for International Students
