The Beli Lab research focus is understanding of the role of circadian disruption in the progression of diabetic retinopathy. We have 3 main questions: How diabetes affects the circadian ocular system, what is the impact of circadian disruption in diabetic retinpathy and can we use use circadian medicine approaches to alleviate the disease?

Our short-term goal is to understand the role of the ocular circadian clock disruption in eye diseases, and increase awareness of its impact for eye health. Ultimately our long-term goal is to design therapies targeting the circadian clock, chronotherapies and noninvasive lifestyle interventions for diabetic retinopathy.
