Professor Ruth Hunter

School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences

Professor Hunter's research interests are in understanding the importance of the environment for public health and planetary health.

She leads research projects investigating:

  • the impact of environmental exposures on health and biological responses;
  • green and blue spaces for chronic disease prevention;
  • preventing violence against women and girls, reducing car dependency;
  • health impacts of biological invasions and community climate action.

She is also the Director of a World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre based at QUB.

•    Environmental exposures and health and biological responses
•    Public health impacts of Lough Neagh water pollution and environmental degradation
•    Health impacts of biological invasions
•    Prevention of violence against women and girls in public outdoor spaces
•    Development and evaluation of community climate action interventions and policies
