Clinical Research Fellow in Blood Cancer Research

Project Description

Supervisor - Professor Ken Mills

This fellowship is funded by Leukaemia Lymphoma NI and Queen’s Foundation and will be based at the Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology (CCRCB) at Queen’s University Belfast.

We are looking for a keen and enthusiastic Clinical Research Fellow to join the blood cancer research group with the view to obtaining with a view to obtaining an MD or PhD.

Applicants must be medically qualified with full GMC registration and be accepted onto a Haematology training programme. Applicants are required to submit a brief statement outlining their motivation to undertake a research degree and how it will benefit their career. Desirable, but not essential criteria would include FRCPath Part 1 and previous research experience.

Applicants should supply a 1 page declaration of interest and possible research plan that in an area which fits with in the ongoing blood cancer research into AML, MDS, MPN, Myeloma and CLL.

Funding is available for tuition fee, salary and consumables (£15,000 pa) from 1st August 2020; additional support for specific resources may be available by application through the Leukaemia Lymphoma NI following appointment.

Candidates applying from countries where the first language is not English should produce evidence of their competence through a qualification such as IELTS or TOEFL score.

  • IELTS score of 6.0 with not less than 5.5 in each of the four component elements of listening, reading, speaking and writing taken within the last 2 years;
  • TOEFL score of 80+ (internet basted test), taken within the last 2 years, with minimum component scores of; Listening 17, Reading 18, Speaking 20, Writing 17);
  • A valid Certificate of Proficiency in English grade A or B;
  • A valid Certificate of Advanced English grade A; or
  • A first or upper second class honours degree from a university based in the UK, Republic of Ireland or other suitably quality assured location in a country deemed by the UK Border Agency to be majority English speaking.

  1. Curriculum Vitae, with a particular focus on your research experience
  2. A one page statement covering your motivation for undertaking a PhD, or MD, and the proposed benefit that this Fellowship will have for your future career
  3. A document outlining the background to the aims of your research proposal; this should be no more than 2 pages including figures and references.
