Join our teaching team

The Centre for Biomedical Sciences Education is seeking to recruit clinical & part-time demonstrators to support the teaching of gross anatomy to undergraduate medical and dental students, within the Centre’s dissecting room facilities.

Practical Class Demonstrators

We encourage suitably qualified people, including PhD students, to apply to join our team of part-time practical class demonstrators.  Such demonstrators may assist with teaching in laboratory classes to undergraduate students in medicine, dentistry, biomedical science and others.  Those with more experience may be offered opportunities to contribute to practical lab book marking, tutorials or even invigilation in practical examinations.

There is a short application process including a brief interview, after which the successful candidates are engaged under a Contract for Services for one year (renewable annually).  The rate of pay is at the University standard.  Persons who have a post-doctoral position are welcome to contribute but cannot be paid additionally to their salary, as they are already under contract to the University.

New demonstrators are required to go on a short training course.  If you are a PhD student you must discuss with your supervisor the extent of your commitment.

Demonstrating provides an opportunity to experience first-hand the teaching aspect of being an academic.  It will be an essential part of the CV of anyone who wishes to make Higher Education their career.

Applications are invited from individuals who possess a relevant good honours science degree or professional degree.  To download an application form, please click here.
