Celebrating Ada Lovelace Day 2019

8 October, 2019

The Queen's Gender Initiative in partnership with the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences were delighted to host an exciting event in celebration of Ada Lovelace Day 2019 and Women in STEM.

Ada Lovelace Day is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It aims to increase the profile of women in STEM, create new role models who will encourage more girls into STEM and support women already working in STEM.

On 8th October 2019, the audience at our event heard about the life and pioneering work of Ada Lovelace, who is considered as the first programmer, working with Sir Charles Babbage on the Analytical Engine (first generation, general purpose mechanical computer).

Guest speakers included Datactics, Esri Ireland and exhibitors from Kainos, Women Who Code and Women TechMakers.
