Global Health Seminar

10 April, 2019

"Gender-based violence in Malawi: the role of ‘One-Stop-Centres to improve the health and safety of women and girls"

A Seminar by Dr Neil Kennedy, Acting Director, Centre for Medical Education and James Durkan, 4th Year Medical Student

Each year the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences Gender Equality Office supports a charity event in association with International Women's Day.

On 10 April 2019, in-line with the theme of driving gender balance across the world, the Gender Equality Office hosted a very inspiring and powerful Global Health Seminar on "Gender-based violence in Malawi: the role of ‘One-Stop-Centres to improve the health and safety of women and girls".  Dr Neil Kennedy and 4th year medical student James Durkan talked about their involvement in these one-stop centres in Malawi that provide multidisciplinary care for adult and child survivors of gender based violence.

A genorous sum of donations were raised to support UK registered charity, Friends of sick children in Malawi, which aims to support sustainable Paediatric services in the largest teaching hospital in Malawi.  The charity supports the work of the ‘One-Stop-Centre’ providing multidisciplinary care for adult and child survivors of gender based violence.

Thank you to everyone who donated towards this very important cause.
