Event Overview
Join this Postdoc Life information session for a practical introduction to making the most of your Career Development Days as a member of research staff at Queen’s.
Career Development Days are designed to support your personal and professional development beyond your immediate role. In this session, we will be joined by Dr Alice Dubois (Research Culture Manager), who will provide a practical overview of Career Development Days at Queen’s, including how they work in practice and how they can be used to support your career progression.
Dr Lisa Douglas (Postdoctoral Development Centre Officer) will also chair a panel of current postdoctoral researchers at Queen’s, who will share their experiences of using Career Development Days in different ways to support their development.
This session will cover:
- Career Development Days in context: Why they exist and their link to the Researcher Development Concordat.
- How the policy works in practice: What counts as career development, how to calculate your allowance, and how to record your days.
- Using your days effectively: Examples of activities to help you get started.
- Postdoc perspectives: Hear directly from postdoctoral researchers about how they have used their Career Development Days and the impact this has had.
There will be time for questions at the end of the session.

The 'Postdoc Life' Series
The 'Postdoc Life' series of information sessions aims at highlighting some of the internal and sector developments and initiatives to postdocs and research staff, in order to help them better understand and navigate their direct (Queen's) and wider (UK Research and Innovation sector) environment.
Sessions are organised several times per year, with topics informed by the PDC Representatives' Network. All postdocs and research staff can suggest future topics by contacting the PDC (pdc@qub.ac.uk) or their local representative.
