Overview of this session

This information session will be delivered by the Pensions Manager from the Finance Directorate at Queen's and will provide information on the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). All research staff are contractually enrolled into USS at the commencement of their employment at the University. 

Each month, you, and the University both contribute to USS, to provide you with a guaranteed income when you retire that is paid for the rest of your lifetime. You will also receive a one-off tax-free lump sum at the date of your retirement. Did you know that as a member of USS, you also receive life insurance cover of 3 x salary? This would be paid to your family should you die as an active member of USS. Did you also know that you can use the online tools on My USS to estimate your pension at your retirement date and to manage your contributions, potentially investing more now to increase your tax-free lump sum at retirement? All this information will be covered in the session, as well as guidance on your options when you leave the University, for example to work at another university in the UK, an employer in a different sector, or a different country.
