Strengthening Partnership with Narxoz University, Kazakhstan 

In October 2025, Professor Sir Ian Greer, President and Vice-Chancellor and Professor Nola Hewitt-Dundas, Pro-Vice Chancellor, and Deans of Internationalisation and Engagement, completed a successful visit to Kazakhstan.

Queen's University Belfast delegation visit Narxoz University, Almaty.

The visit underscored Queen’s growing role as a trusted international partner supporting Kazakhstan’s ambitions for education excellence, research collaboration, and innovation-driven growth. 

The delegation’s visit to Narxoz University in Almaty marked an important step in expanding the existing strategic partnership between the two institutions. Meetings with the Narxoz University President, Provost, and senior leadership focused on enhancing cooperation within the current Queen’s Business School 2+2 programme and exploring new areas for collaboration across disciplines, including International Relations, Sociology, Environment and Sustainable Development. 

Discussions also covered plans for joint degree programmes at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, along with initiatives such as summer schools, academic mobility, staff exchanges, and joint research projects.

Forum of Strategic Partners (Ministry of Science and Higher Education)

The Queen’s delegation attended the International Forum of Strategic Partners “Kazakhstan – Territory of Academic Knowledge” in Astana, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The Head of State emphasised the strategic importance of education and science, highlighting their key role in shaping the country’s future.

“Strong universities are factories of the future, where new ideas are born and the contours of a just world are formed,” said the President.

The forum discussed issues of international cooperation in the fields of science and higher education, the expansion of academic mobility, and the modernisation of the educational ecosystem.
