Queen’s University students seeking accommodation are set to have enhanced options after a unique agreement the university has reached with LIV Student, Belfast.

Based in the city centre at the corner of York Street and Little Patrick Street, the provider has agreed to provide accommodation at the same cost and terms and conditions that are applied at the university-owned accommodation.

Queen’s provides accommodation for over 3,500 students across its own buildings. In order to meet the needs of an increased number of students wishing to study in Belfast from across the island, from Great Britain and further afield, along with exceptional circumstances that have arisen as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic leading to a higher number of students seeking university accommodation, it was keen to proactively secure extra spaces as a contingency.

Caroline Young, Director of Student Plus which oversees Queen’s accommodation, said: “We are delighted to reach this agreement with LIV as it provides us additional capacity at an attractive city centre venue in our efforts to respond positively to all applications.”

“This arrangement enables us to be better placed to meet the demand and provide the option of city centre living which some students may prefer. We are also working closely with transport providers so that a good service is available between the university and the city centre.”

Claire Preston, of LIV Student, Belfast, said: “LIV is committed to providing high quality accommodation for the city’s growing student population and we are pleased that we have reached this agreement with Queen’s University.

“Our location is at the heart of the city and we are keen to play our part in supporting the overall goal of promoting city centre living in a fast growing area of Belfast.”
