Queen’s ranks in the top five in two student awards

Queen’s University Belfast has been ranked the 5th best university in the UK, and Queen’s Students’ Union has been ranked number 3 in the UK in the ‘Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2024.’

The Whatuni Student Choice Awards are the largest annual awards in the UK where the outcome is decided exclusively by students.

Queen’s received praise from students for its vast range of courses, a campus that blends high-tech and historic buildings seamlessly, a buzzing student life, a diverse and nurturing community, and career prospects post-graduation.

The University's state-of-the art Student Centre and Students’ Union at One Elmwood, which opened in 2022, also received rave reviews from students, who mentioned the busy programme of events and activities, as well as the convenience of having a superb range of student services all under one roof, so students can access services, collaborate in shared spaces, get support and advice, and socialise in first class venues.

Professor Judy Williams, Queen’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Students, welcomes the awards. She said: “At Queen’s we are committed to providing the highest quality teaching and a supportive and inclusive student experience for our entire student body.

“The University works closely with our students and Students’ Union to ensure that we are providing a learning and social environment that works for all of our students, and enables everybody to thrive. It is wonderful to see that our students have voted us both the 5th best university in the UK, and the 3rd best Students’ Union in the UK.”

Caroline Young, Queen’s Vice-President for Students and Corporate Services, said: “Our students are at the heart of all that we do as a University and it is imperative to us that we provide a safe, welcoming and vibrant learning environment that fulfils their educational and social needs. Therefore, it is truly heartening to receive such positive feedback from our students.”

Speaking about the award and what it means for students, Student Union President Beth Elder added: “"What a year it's been for the Students' Union!  We are currently ranked No. 1 SU from 108 SU's globally in the International Student Barometer and this latest ranking by Whatuni is further evidence that the SU is playing a key role in the lives of our students, helping them make the most of their time at Queen's.

“We are absolutely thrilled to see feedback from our students that reflects the positive impact the SU has had on their time at University."
