Find out what are the next steps in the application process
When you submit your accommodation application you will see an acknowledgement page confirming that your application has been successfully received.
You will also receive an email which you should keep for later reference. If you do not receive this email by the following day, please contact us on 028 9097 4403 or allocations@qub.ac.uk.
Your Offer...
Students will be allocated accommodation when they have been accepted onto a course at Queen’s University Belfast. We have many applications to process, and we would appreciate your patience during this time.
All staff in the Accommodation Service at Queen’s do their best to answer questions and explain the process for room allocations, as outlined in our policies. All staff deserve to be treated with respect as they undertake their work. Any abusive behaviour towards our staff members is not acceptable. We reserve the right to take appropriate action under student conduct regulations if any abuse is experienced by our staff teams while they are trying to help you via email, on telephone calls or in person.
RECEIVING AN OFFER
Once you have been accepted onto your course, you qualify to be sent an offer. You will have 24 hours to respond to your offer and pay a £300 deposit. The deposit covers any damage to your accommodation, loss or non-return of fobs / keys and any missing items. It can also be used to offset any unpaid rent. Your apartment is inspected when you depart, and the deposit is returned in full provided your room and kitchen passes inspection.
Accepting a contract...
Once we have allocated your accommodation, we will send you an offer to the email address you provided on your online accommodation application. Sometimes, our emails will automatically go into your junk mail or spam mail folders so make sure that you check these regularly.
The email will contain a link which will take you to your offer and the Conditions of Occupancy. You should read this carefully as when you accept the offer online, this creates a legally binding contract for the time period stated (usually for the whole academic year from September to June). In order to complete the contract, you must pay a deposit of £300 when accepting the contract.
REMEMBER: PLEASE ACCEPT YOUR CONTRACT WITHIN 24 HOURS OF RECEIVING YOUR OFFER.
Students who have not accepted their offer within the specified timeframe, or who decline the offer of accommodation, will forfeit the guarantee and the offer of accommodation will be withdrawn. If accommodation is subsequently required, a new application must be made, a subsequent offer is not guaranteed.
FINANCIAL HELP FOR STUDENTS
-
Accommodation Bursary
Financial Support for Northern Ireland Students with a lower Household Income
The Queen’s Accommodation Bursary Fund is designed to provide targeted financial assistance for Queen's University students whose permanent home address is in Northern Ireland and who come from a lower household income background (under £25,000 per annum). For the 2025-26 academic year, this scheme will provide financial support towards the cost of accommodation within Queen's Accommodation or one of its nominated partner properties (currently: Student Roost Swanston House, and Mezzino Bradbury Place & Aster House).
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Queen's Accommodation Bursary, applicants must be attending Queen's on a full-time course, permanently reside in Northern Ireland and have secured a room in Queen's Accommodation or nominated partners. They must also be in receipt of funding from the Student Loans Company (Student Finance NI), and their verified household income must be below £25,000.There are two thresholds for the bursary based on household income (HHI) as declared to Student Finance NI:-- HHI of less than £25,000; Accommodation bursary payment £750.
- HHI of less than £19,204; Accommodation bursary payment £1,250.
How do Students get the Bursary?
An application for the bursary is not required; Northern Ireland students who are eligible for the award will automatically receive an adjustment to their accommodation fees after the start of term based on data provided to Queen’s via Student Finance NI.
The bursary is part of a wider University programme of assistance including the Student Support Fund and the University Financial Assistance Fund, both of which support to students facing financial difficulties whilst studying.
Students don't need to do anything to apply for this bursary. This will not be reflected on your account until later in the semester, prior to the first accommodation instalment.
- Financial Difficulties and Support
The Residential Fees Team can only provide information about your accommodation fees and does not oversee or administer financial aid and awards.
