Programme structure, levels, modules and credits

The BSc (Hons) in Psychological Trauma Studies is a four year part-time undergraduate degree offered by the School of Nursing and Midwifery within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences in Collaborative Partnership with the WAVE Trauma Centre

Awards, Credits and Progression of Learning Outcomes

BSc (Hons) in Psychological Trauma Studies shall be conferred upon registered students of the University who have pursued the approved course of study and passed all module assessment requirements. The course is subject to the General Regulations and Primary Degree Regulations of the University. In addition the following course specific regulations apply.

The BSc (Hons) in Psychological Trauma Studies will be awarded in line with University General Regulations.

All level 2 modules must be successfully completed before students can progress to undertake degree level 3 modules. Students achieving 120 credits may exit with a Diploma in Trauma Studies. Enrolment is to the BSc (Hons) in Psychological Trauma Studies, enrolment to the Diploma is not permitted.

Students currently enrolled in the programme will complete their studies according to the curriculum approved in 2021.

Educational Aims Of Programme

On completion of the programme the student will be able to:

Apply the evidence base underpinning psychological trauma and loss;

Through examination of the relevant literature reflect on the victim / survivor journey;

Critically review the relationship between trauma and addiction;

Consolidate, extend and apply knowledge and understanding of the research process;

Critique the responses of International Agencies to global conflict;

Develop a critical understanding of the impact of transgenerational trauma on individuals, families and communities;

Evaluate the range of treatment modalities for psychological trauma;

Critique the nature and significance of vicarious traumatisation;

Develop a requisite set of graduate skills.

Notes

This four year part time programme is only available to students commencing the BSc Psychological Trauma Studies from September 2021.

Level 2 modules run alternate years, year one of the programme commences Sept 2021 with WAV2008, 2013 and 2014.
WAV2011 and WAV2009 will run in year two of the programme commencing Sept 2022.

Level three modules are taught alternate years.
WAV3017, WAV3018 and WAV3019 will be taught academic year commencing Sept 2023.
WAV3020 and WAV3021 will be taught in academic year commencing Sept 2024.
