The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Brandon Lewis, and Simon Coveney TD, Minister for Foreign Affairs, will join the First Minister Arlene Foster and Deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill and a panel of academic experts in an online event to mark the Centenary of the Government of Ireland Act 1920.

The virtual event will take place on Thursday 10 December, 12.30pm – 2.00pm and will be open to the public to attend.

Queen’s University Belfast Pro-Vice-Chancellor and internationally recognised historian, academic and author, Professor Richard English, said; “The Government of Ireland Act 1920 represented a profound change in Ireland’s political and historical landscape. It's a very significant development in the history of the UK and Ireland, and it's important to reflect on the changes and complex histories that emerged as a result.  We are grateful to have contributions from leading politicians and historians, and we hope that this event will encourage inclusive dialogue, reflection and deeper understanding.”

This pre-recorded event is part of Queen’s University Belfast’s programme of events to mark the Decade of Centenaries.

The event will be live streamed and the public can register at http://go.qub.ac.uk/centenary-gia
