The Northern Ireland Science Festival, which runs from Monday 11th until Sunday 22nd February, offers a vibrant programme of events for people of all ages.

At Queen’s, world class scientists will be on hand to discuss cutting-edge research and what the future might hold, as well as unique opportunities to experience activities like live flint knapping and blacksmithing.

There will also be a special event on Saturday 14th February, “Why Queen’s, Why 1845?”, exploring the foundation and early development of what became Queen’s University.

Speaking ahead of the NI Science Festival events at Queen’s, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University Belfast, Professor Richard Miles, said: “Queen’s University is proud to be a sponsor and partner of the NI Science Festival.

“We are delighted to be hosting over sixty events and are looking forward to welcoming people of all ages to our beautiful campus, especially as we celebrate our 180th year. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the real-world impact that our scientists make every day, through research, our students and partnerships with communities locally, nationally and internationally.”

Joan Parsons, Head of Culture and Arts at Queen’s, commented: “The NI Science Festival is truly special; as a university, it gives us an opportunity to show that science really isn’t confined to a laboratory – it’s fun, it’s exciting and it’s all around us, every single day. By making science accessible, we hope to showcase the power of STEAM in our society.”

Sarah Jones, Director at NI Science Festival, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be working in partnership with Queen's for the 12th NI Science Festival.

“Queen’s has been a long-standing supporter of the festival, and that support is vital in helping us showcase the world-class research, creativity and innovation happening right here on our doorstep.

“This partnership allows us to connect our local researchers with the public in meaningful, accessible ways and to celebrate Northern Ireland as a place where brilliant ideas are being developed every day."
