QUAL History and Background

In October 1923 a group of Queen’s University Belfast alumni met for dinner at a hotel near Victoria Station, London and formed themselves into the ‘Queen’s University Club’, later renamed the ‘Queen’s University Association London’ (QUAL).  From that time, the Association has been run by alumni, volunteering their time to promote links between former Queen’s students living in London and the Southeast of England, and working to enhance relationships between alumni in the region and the University in Belfast.  QUAL was delighted to mark its Centenary in 2023 as a shared event with the University which used this occasion at the House of Lords to confer an honorary degree on Sir John Major.

The Association continues to celebrate the close relationship that exists between the alumni and their alma mater and acknowledges the contribution of the many alumni who have served the Association and its work with such dedication for over one hundred years.

Forthcoming Events

QUAL Golf Day on Wednesday May 27th 2026 at Wyke Green Golf Club, in Osterley, West London. 

This is a wonderful opportunity for alumni and friends to enjoy a fantastic afternoon of sport and socialising. All golfers are welcome, and a wide spectrum of handicaps play each year.  With subsidised green fees, arrival refreshments and a two-course lunch, the price is £75 per guest. For further information or to register your interest, contact Jonny Bramley.
