Sean O'Connell, Queen's University Belfast and Leanne McCormick, Ulster University: 'North and South: Comparing the history and legacy of the Mother and Baby Homes'.

Sean O'Connell is Professor of British and Irish Social History at QUB. Sean's most recently published monograph is The Politics of Consumer Credit in the UK, 1938-1992 (OUP, 2018). He is currently completing a monograph for Palgrave Pivot on the history of joyriding. This research forms part of Sean's growing expertise in the social history of Northern Ireland. Dr Leanne McCormick is Senior Lecturer in Modern Irish Social History and Director of the Centre for the History of Medicine in Ireland (CHOMI) at Ulster University. Her research interests include women's history, history of sexuality and history of medicine in Ireland/Northern Ireland, and her publications include Regulating Sexuality: Women in Twentieth Century Northern Ireland (Manchester UP, 2010).

They jointly completed in 2019 a research project that was commissioned by the Department of Health (NI), examining the history of mother and baby homes and Magdalene laundries in Northern Ireland. This research details the Northern Ireland experience of institutions that have provided so much concern and trauma in the Republic of Ireland.
