While the market for audio effect plugins has grown significantly in the past few years, the vast majority of these plugins focus on re-creating the sonic and visual aesthetics of vintage analog audio effects. In this talk, we discuss the development of purely digital audio effects, exploring the possibilities of what can be conceived in the virtual world. As case studies, we examine several open-source plugins developed by the presenter over the past 2 years.
