One of the guest speakers is Azhar Murtuza, a biotechnologist with Int MBA and founder of Born Maverick Group, which is a backend bio-engineering company that has developed products ranging from seafood alternatives to plant-based lollies. He topped the list of fifty innovative BAME leaders within the UK for 2023. Azhar has previously spoken at Graduate School events such as the Curiosity Breakfast Club.

This is a PGLI event. Lead student organiser, Femi Omotoyinbo, says, ‘We’re very proud to be introducing The BAME Careers Seminar Series, which aims to offer support to postgraduate students of ethnic minority backgrounds. The challenges of securing a job, or even knowing what job to apply for, after your studies can be overwhelming for BAME students, and worries about these challenges can affect current academic performance, self esteem, and mental health.

With the increase of the number of BAME postgraduate students, now is the time to try and allay some of these fears. This seminar will involve two successful professionals from BAME background sharing their journeys through the job market, and how they were able to forge ahead through difficulties that are somewhat inherent to their BAME identities.'
