Planning at Queen's University Belfast are delighted to host Guerilla geographer, Dan Raven-Ellison to learn about how London became a National Park City.
Dan is a parent, guerrilla geographer, social innovator, National Geographic Explorer and a former geography teacher. His work focuses on challenging himself and others to see and shape the world in new ways. He does this by combining creative exploration, geography, communication and community-building to tackle social and environmental challenges. He is the Founder and CEO of Slow Ways, a giant initiative to create a national walking network that connects all of Britain’s towns, cities and National Parks. Slow Ways is currently going through an ambitious transformation to connect even more people and places.
He founded and led the campaign to make London the world’s first National Park City and supported Adelaide (Australia), Chattanooga (USA) and Breda (Netherlands) to become National Park Cities too. More recently, he started Housing for Good with Dr Robert Phillips.
This major effort aims to secure affordable housing for charitable causes and projects.
This session will focus on the importance of investing in place across the city and will be accompanied by an update on the campaign for Belfast to become a National Park City and an exhibition of the work by MSc City Planning & Design students.
