Dr Michael Aldous

Dr Michael Aldous is a business and economic historian interested in long run trends in the leadership and management of companies.

His recent work analyses British CEOs, examining who gets to the top of the corporate ladder, how executives are trained, how the role of CEO has changed, and the affect executives have on company performance.

He has published widely in leading academic journals, and his book, co-authored with John Turner, The CEO: The Rise and Fall of Britain’s Captains of Industry, (Cambridge University Press) comes out in June 2025.

Dr Aldous is also a co-founder of the Long Run Institute (LRI), a non-profit that brings together historians, corporate decision makers and policy makers to examine the historical context of contemporary grand challenges.
