Alumni Engagement and Philanthropy
Eddie Friel is responsible for leading the University's engagement with its global alumni body, generating significant philanthropic income in support of University activities aligned with research, teaching, and student support. He also serves as the Clerk to Convocation and Honorary Secretary to the Queen’s University of Belfast Foundation Board. Eddie is a member of the senior leadership team in both the Governance and External Affairs Section and the wider University.
Prior to his current role, he was Director of Development and Alumni Relations at Ulster University. In addition to other roles held at Ulster University, he has been employed at Queen's University Belfast, Invest Northern Ireland, and in the private sector. Eddie has studied at Ulster University and Queen's University Belfast.

Led by Director Eddie Friel, the Alumni Engagement and Philanthropy team engages with and maintains lifelong relationships with former students and supporters of the University living and working across the globe.
What we do
Our team keeps connected with Queen's global network of 250,000 graduates. We also help to ensure that future generations of students will continue to benefit from world-class research and teaching offered at Queen’s by raising money, through the Queen’s Foundation, from alumni, friends and charitable trusts and foundations for projects that are of strategic importance to the University, its students and staff. Our work has a major impact - changing the lives of our staff, students, graduates and transforming society locally and globally.
