Raymond Seymour

Dr Raymond Seymour passed away on 10 February 2026 at the age of 89.

He matriculated from Larne Technical College in 1953, with a scholarship to go to Queen's, but had to wait a year, as he was aged  just 16. He completed his Honours degree in Physics and then a Master's, before going to Bristol University in 1960 to study for his PhD on Radiobiology. He was involved in the pioneering days of medical scanning technology and his career took him to Surrey, Aberdeen and finally Taunton in Somerset. His notebooks from his time at Queen's contain many handwritten formulae that look baffling to his three children!

He came back to his home town of Larne and in retirement enjoyed many activities including walks along the prom with his wife Alice Joan, before dementia set in, spending his final years in Larne Care Centre.
