The Queen's Taylor Swift Society: Your Ultimate Space for Karaoke, Movie Nights and Crazy Fun
Anthropology and English student Natasha is currently PR Officer of the Taylor Swift Society at Queen's. In this blog, she discusses the aims of the society, typical events held by the committee, and how you can join in on all the fun!
Society Aims
Started in 2023, our society’s core aim was bringing together the community of swifties so we can share our passion for the global icon’s deeply resonating music. Since then, we have grown into a renowned society that always values the wellbeing of its members as we seek to conduct events that cater to all our needs for relaxing, singing, connecting with ourselves as well as making new friends!

Halloween-themed pub quiz
We ensure that we provide an overall fulfilling experience, no matter the kind of event. At the start of last year, we organised a karaoke party at the Botanic Inn. Everyone who showed up told us we created a truly safe and magical place where people could come in, forget about the world for some time, and just enjoy the night. Even when I went back to the pub, the venue staff kept telling me about how amazing the energy was when swifties were in the room. That’s what we strive to achieve when we put together events. We want you to feel like you belong with us (there you go, I snuck in an OG Taylor Swift reference!).
How to Join
For us, it shouldn’t matter if you have been a part of this fandom since forever or have just been listening to her in recent days. All fans and non-fans alike are welcome. After all, we are always on the lookout for new members, and we ensure utmost inclusion and security. Our society is open to all Queen’s students – UG, PGT, PGR, etc. And, we have made membership completely FREE, all you need to do is sign up through this link.

Society Events
Now, let’s talk about our successful events so far, so you have an idea of what to expect during your time with us. Last year, in collaboration with the Business Society, we conducted a marvellous Formal at Hilton Belfast. The night was a perfect combination of glitter, good vibes, amazing food, and Taylor’s songs.
Previously, we have organised karaoke, a friendship bracelet making session, Halloween-themed pub quiz and murder mystery. As you can see, we engage with both party nights as well as cosy ones. We understand every single event might not be your cup of tea, but there should be something you’ll like when you’re with us!

Society Formal
In addition to celebrating Swift’s music, we also strive to create an inclusive, inexpensive, secure, and beneficial avenue for students to express themselves. Screaming the lyrics to All Too Well (10-minute version) - it’s our end of event tradition to play that song - or silently making a cute friendship bracelet can be therapeutic in inexplicable ways. So, if you ever choose to spend your evening with us, we make it worth it and a valuable time for you to look back on. It is in swifties’ nature to be kind, respectful, and friendly to all, and that’s a value we try to really push for.
As the PR Officer for the year, I have been enjoying being part of the committee. It is a wonderful experience to be able to connect with fellow fans who share the same kind of love you do for an artist, a relatable aspect that will never fade. To sum up, we aspire to spread joy in every single event of ours. Even if it puts a little smile on your face, we take that as a big win!
