Things to Do in Belfast for Introverts
If you’re an introvert studying in Belfast, here are some of the best introvert-friendly things to do in the city.

Being an introvert at university can be tough for some students, especially when you’re surrounded by people who thrive on social interaction. But just because you’re an introvert doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the fun.
Introverted Activities at Queen’s
Here at Queen’s, we run events with introverts in mind. For example, our Careers team have set up Networking Sessions for Introverts, which recognises networking is an important part of the university experience (and beyond), but traditional networking approaches don’t suit everyone. These sessions offer a supportive, low-pressure space where students can build valuable networking skills at their own pace, in a way that feels more comfortable and authentic.
We also regularly promote events and opportunities throughout your time at Queen’s that will be introvert friendly and can help you develop new skills or gently push you out of your comfort zone (if that’s what you want).
Over in the Students’ Union, we have over 240 clubs and societies, all founded and run by students. While there are some extroverted clubs and societies there like drama and sports clubs, you’ll also find low-key choices such as book clubs, writing groups and art classes, perfect for introverts who prefer quieter, more reflective hobbies.
The Students’ Union are always running introvert-friendly events throughout the academic year, so be sure to keep an eye out on What’s On for events like Silent Discos and Crafting afternoons.
The university also opened a gaming café called Reboot, a space where gamers can go play old school arcade games, board games or console games. Whether you go on a solo date or with a few friends, Reboot is a relaxed, alcohol-free environment that offers casual socialisation.
Belfast Coffee Scene
Belfast has a fantastic coffee scene, and as an introvert you will know coffee shops are a great way to have social presence without social pressure. You can soak up the atmosphere, read, work, or simply enjoy some people-watching without needing to engage.
In Belfast you’ll have plenty to choose from. From Nine Squared and Trait in the City Centre to Sojourn and Blue Train in the Queen’s Quarter and Botanic areas, you’ll have no trouble finding somewhere to grab a traybake and a coffee, tea or matcha. We also have great coffee spots on campus like Junction, HOPE, Social and Business and Beans.
Tip: Belfast coffee spots tend to be busiest at the weekends and will often have queues, visit during the week, early on weekend mornings or in between classes for some quieter times.
Book Shops and Libraries
One of the ultimate introvert activities is browsing a bookshop, and Belfast has no shortage of great ones.
Close to campus we have Books, Paper, Scissors in the Stranmillis Area, as well as No Alibis and Oxfam Book Shop in the Botanic area, all within a ten-minute walk from the Lanyon Building.
In the city centre, there’s a large Waterstones complete with Ground Coffee on the first floor so you can start your latest read with a beverage in hand.

If libraries are more your thing, the Linen Hall Library is the oldest library in Belfast. Not only can you borrow fiction and non-fiction books here, but the Linen Hall team also regularly put on events and have different collections for you to check out. Linen Hall does have varying membership options, with student discounts available.
Belfast Central Library is the public library on Royal Avenue; you can drop by to browse their collection of books or use it as a study spot. This library is free to join, and not only will you be able to borrow physical books, but Libraries NI memberships also come with Libby, an app that can give you free access to millions of ebooks and audiobooks.
Other Activities for Introverts in Belfast
- Pilates and Yoga: Both are hugely popular in Belfast, offering calm, mindful exercise in smaller group settings. Whether it’s mat classes, reformer, or hot yoga, you’ll find a session to suit your pace and comfort level.
- Solo Visits to the Ulster Museum: Located right next to the university, the museum offers an enriching solo experience where you can explore at your own pace.
