Staff Choir hits the right notes

Staff Wellbeing has launched a new initiative to get staff singing and improve their wellbeing.

Staff Choir

The Queen’s Friday Choir is made up of 60 members of staff from across the University and is led by Una McCann, who is Musical Director of Antrim Community Choir and co-directs children’s choirs as part of Junior Academy of Music at Queen’s.

Explaining why the choir has been set up, Laura Lynch from Staff Wellbeing said: “You don’t need to look far to find out about the physical, emotional and psychological benefits of singing and particularly group singing. It's been proven that it is good for your health: from getting more oxygen into the blood, to increasing the flow of feel-good hormones and improving mental health.”

The choir meets on a Friday lunchtime and is busy rehearsing for a charity performance in the Great Hall on Friday 20 May. Further details of the performance will be made available nearer the time.
